Rod Stewart left fans shocked in Las Vegas after abruptly canceling two major shows just hours before he was supposed to take the stage.

The 81-year-old rock icon was scheduled to perform at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on May 29 and May 30, but the concerts were suddenly scrapped before showtime after doctors ordered him to rest.

The last-minute decision immediately sparked concern among fans who had traveled, booked hotels, and waited for a night with one of rock’s most legendary performers.

According to a representative for Stewart, the singer was forced to cancel after following his doctor’s advice.

“Following his doctor’s advice, Rod Stewart has regretfully canceled his performances at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on May 29 and 30, but is scheduled to return with shows beginning June 2,” the representative told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Stewart later broke his silence with an apology of his own, revealing he had been placed on vocal rest while battling a sinus infection.

“My apologies to my family of fans,” Stewart said. “I am on vocal rest as I recover from a sinus infection. I look forward to seeing you at a future show at Caesars Palace or on tour this summer.”

The explanation may have been simple, but the timing was brutal.

One fan on X said the cancellation notice arrived at 5:48 p.m., less than two hours before the concert was supposed to begin at 7:30 p.m.

For fans already dressed, excited, and likely inside or near Caesars Palace, the news was a gut punch.

“Feels like the colosseum is cursed atp,” one person wrote online.

Another was even more blunt, writing, “He needs to retire and enjoy the rest of his years in peace, anyway tbh.”

The sudden cancellation has renewed questions about how long Stewart can keep pushing himself through a demanding performance schedule at his age.

But Stewart has been defiant about retirement for years.

The “Maggie May” singer previously made it clear that while he may be stepping away from massive world tours, he has no interest in disappearing from the stage.

“This will be the end of large-scale world tours for me, but I have no desire to retire,” Stewart said in 2024. “I love what I do, and I do what I love.”

He also joked that he was still in remarkable shape.

“I’m fit, have a full head of hair, and can run 100 meters in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79,” he said.

Even so, the Vegas cancellations are a reminder that even rock legends can be forced to listen when doctors say enough is enough.

Stewart has long prided himself on staying fit, once telling AARP that he keeps himself in fighting shape with a trainer he has worked with for decades.

“I keep myself very fit,” Stewart said. “I played soccer all my life — don’t so much anymore, because I had a knee replacement. And I’ve always had a trainer — same guy for 38 years.”

He also revealed that his intense routine includes gym workouts, swimming, and underwater training inside his massive home setup.

“We do a lot of underwater training, where the trainer throws a brick into the pool and I have to dive in, push the brick to the end of the pool, and come up,” Stewart said.

The rocker has even bragged about sprint training on his private track, saying he was trying to push his 100-meter time even lower.

“I got it down to 19 seconds by learning how to push off,” he said. “I’m going to try and do 17 seconds, which I think is a world record for an 80-year-old.”

That fighting spirit is exactly why fans have continued to pack venues to see him.

But this time, Stewart’s body — or at least his voice — forced him to hit pause.

The British superstar had recently performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 26, 2026, and remains scheduled to return to Caesars Palace beginning June 2.

For now, fans are left waiting and wondering whether Stewart will be back onstage as planned.

One thing is clear: the man who once insisted he has “no desire to retire” is not ready to quietly fade away.

But after a stunning last-minute Vegas cancellation, even Rod Stewart may have to prove he can still outrun time.

  1. I was a huge Rod Stewart fan for so many years then he just showed what he really was. People inserting themselves in things where it’s unnecessary. I get he’s old and feels the need to say what he thinks but just because someone shoves a mic in your face and you have a platform doesn’t mean everyone wants to hear it. At 81 getting sick like this is serious he should retire to be there for those babies he keeps having. It doesn’t matter if you’re rich if YOU won’t be around to raise them.
