A Texas family is demanding answers after they say their 16-year-old daughter suffered chemical burns from head to toe after showering in their home’s water.
Misty Logan, of Trinidad, Texas, shared the disturbing claim in a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 3, saying her daughter was burned after using the city’s water on May 28.
“On May 28, 2026, my child was chemically burned from head to toe from Trinidad’s water!” Misty wrote. “We have doctors saying it is from the water!”
She said her daughter was in pain for days after the shower.
“My daughter suffered for days, her whole body was burning for days!” she continued. “As a mom, I felt so helpless not being able to make her better!”
Misty said she was furious with the City of Trinidad and claimed she had not been properly notified that chemicals had been added to the water.
“My daughter did not deserve this,” she wrote. “This city needs to get their s— together and now. We don’t need anyone else getting sick, let alone burned from chemicals that are being put in our water!”
Misty said she waited several days before posting because her focus had been on helping her daughter recover.
In an interview with FOX 4, Misty and her husband, David Logan, said they have had problems with Trinidad’s water for years.
“We’ve always had a problem with this water since we’ve lived here,” Misty said. “It’s always been discolored, smells.”
The parents said they initially did not know what was causing their daughter’s skin irritation. But when the teen tried taking more showers to relieve the burning, they said her condition only got worse.
“Only thing we came to a conclusion on is each time you got in that water to try to relieve yourself it only made it worse,” Misty told FOX 4.
David said he strongly believes the water was connected to what happened to his daughter.
“This is not a laughing matter,” he said. “I do strongly believe that this, with my daughter, had something to do with the water.”
Medical records from Children’s Health in Dallas obtained by FOX 4 reportedly stated that the teen’s skin irritation was “most likely chemical burn/severe dermatitis from water she was exposed to.”
“The doctors came to the conclusion that what she had been exposed to was something from our water,” Misty said.
According to FOX 4, the City of Trinidad had previously posted on Facebook that it was temporarily switching its water disinfectant from chloramine to free chlorine from April 27 to May 30. The post, which was reportedly later deleted, told residents they might notice changes in the taste and odor of the water.
The Logans’ attorney later posted a preliminary test strip result on X that appeared to suggest high levels of free chlorine in the family’s water.
“Everyone in the city needs to be able to turn their faucet on and be able to drink the water with no hesitation,” Misty said.
The family’s allegations come as the city has already faced controversy over concerns about the water supply.
In April, Henderson County resident Jennifer Combs was charged with felony false alarm after police said she made a Facebook post claiming people had been hospitalized after drinking Trinidad’s water.
Trinidad Police Chief Charles Gregory told FOX 4 that Combs’ post “creates fear, panic, or unnecessary emergency response within a community.”
Combs has since filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Trinidad and Gregory, claiming she was arrested in “an act of deliberate political retaliation.”
On Thursday, June 4, a Trinidad City Council water workshop for residents was abruptly canceled “at the advice of counsel,” according to KLTV, citing Mayor Dennis Haws.
David Logan said the cancellation was frustrating because the meeting was supposed to address the water concerns.
“My daughter was chemically burned, with no answers, and tonight was supposed to be a night about the water topic,” he told KLTV.
Misty said watching her daughter suffer changed everything.
“After watching what my daughter went through head to toe, my momma bear is out, I’m done,” she said.
