Two School Custodians Found Murdered Inside Elementary School

Two school custodians were found shot in the head inside a Chicago elementary school, leaving both workers dead and prompting a police investigation.

The grim discovery was made Monday afternoon at Mark Twain Elementary School, where officers found a 48-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man suffering from single gunshot wounds to the head, according to Chicago police.

Both victims were rushed to a hospital in critical condition, but they were later pronounced dead.

Police said a weapon was recovered at the scene, though authorities have not publicly said what led up to the shooting or whether they are looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

No students were inside the school when the incident happened, according to principal Matthew Moline.

Moline did not identify the victims, but acknowledged the tragedy in a letter sent to the school community.

“Members of our school community were impacted,” he wrote.

“We will work to provide additional information to the school community as the investigation proceeds. Please know that we are taking this situation very seriously.”

The deaths have also shaken the union representing school custodians.

Trumaine Reeves, executive vice president of SEIU Local 73, said the focus remains on the families who lost loved ones.

“The only facts we know right now are that two families have lost a loved one and our prayers are with their families, and the staff, students, and families at Mark Twain Elementary School,” Reeves said.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the two victims or announced any arrests.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine exactly what happened inside the elementary school.
