5 Teens Killed After Car Goes Over Cliff in Horrifying Accident

Five 17-year-old boys were killed after the vehicle they were riding in went off a cliff in Colorado and crashed down a steep hillside, authorities said.

The deadly crash happened late Saturday in a residential area of Grand Junction.

Police and firefighters were called shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report that a vehicle may have driven off the edge of a cliff in the 2000 block of Lookout Lane, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

When first responders arrived, they found the badly crashed vehicle down the hillside.

All five teenagers were pronounced dead at the scene.

“Initial investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling southbound on Lookout Lane when it veered off the roadway and down the steep incline of the hillside,” police said in a statement Sunday.

Investigators said speed is being considered as a possible factor in the crash, but the exact cause remains under investigation.

Multiple emergency agencies were called in to help recover the victims from the difficult crash site.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office said Monday that all five boys died from injuries they suffered in the wreck.

Authorities also revealed that three of the teens — the driver, the front-seat passenger and another occupant — were wearing seatbelts.

The other two boys were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle during the crash, according to the coroner’s office.

All five victims were 17 years old and lived in Grand Junction.

Their names have not been publicly released because the Mesa County Coroner’s Office has a policy of not identifying minors.

The devastating crash has left the local community mourning five teenagers lost in a single night.

“Our hearts are heavy following the tragic losses this weekend,” the Grand Junction Police Department said.

The investigation is continuing as authorities work to determine exactly why the vehicle left Lookout Lane and plunged down the hillside.
