Armed Woman Storms School Bus Carrying 37 Kids in Shocking Road Rage Incident

A 19-year-old Indiana woman is facing multiple felony charges after police say a road-rage dispute escalated into a terrifying confrontation with a school bus carrying 37 children.

Jamiya Sutton was arrested Sept. 16 on Indianapolis’ east side after allegedly blocking the bus with her Kia, getting out with a loaded handgun and forcing her way onto the vehicle while students were still inside.

According to court documents, Sutton told police the incident began when the school bus pulled out in front of her near East 36th Street and North DeQuincy Street.

She said she swerved and struck a construction sign.

Police say Sutton became angry, followed the bus and eventually drove around it before parking her car sideways in the road so the bus could not continue.

The bus driver told officers she had not noticed Sutton until the Kia suddenly pulled in front of the bus and forced it to stop.

What allegedly happened next was far more alarming.

Investigators say Sutton got out of her car carrying a black handgun and began waving it around while yelling for the driver to come outside.

The driver refused.

Police say Sutton then forced open the bus door and stepped inside with the gun while 37 children were aboard.

She allegedly continued yelling and waving the weapon before eventually getting off the bus and returning to her car.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers initially responded to what had been reported as a crash.

When they arrived, however, they found the Kia blocking the roadway and determined the vehicles had not actually collided with each other.

Sutton reportedly admitted she had been armed during the confrontation but told officers she “did not do anything with it.”

Police then made another disturbing discovery.

An officer who went to Sutton’s Kia to turn down loud music allegedly spotted a handgun beneath the driver’s seat.

Authorities identified it as a Glock 17 Gen 4 loaded with a magazine containing 21 live rounds.

The gun was seized, and Sutton was taken into custody without further incident.

She is now charged with criminal confinement with a deadly weapon, criminal confinement involving a vehicle, pointing a firearm at another person and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle.

There is also a significant new detail in the case.

Court records show Sutton had been arrested less than a week earlier in connection with a separate alleged road-rage incident.

In that Sept. 11 case, police say Sutton was accused of pulling out the same black handgun during a confrontation with another driver near 51st Street and Allisonville Road.

Sutton remained in the Marion County Jail without bond as of the latest reporting while awaiting her initial court hearing.

No injuries were reported among the 37 children aboard the bus.
