A Delta Air Lines passenger was arrested after allegedly launching into a profanity-filled, racist tirade aboard a packed flight at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, leaving fellow travelers stunned and delaying the plane’s departure.

Jerome Anixter, 60, of Brooklyn, was taken into custody Thursday, October 22, after Port Authority police were called to Delta Flight 2342, which was preparing to depart for Atlanta.

What began as an ordinary afternoon flight quickly turned into a chaotic scene as officers boarded the aircraft to remove a passenger who reportedly appeared intoxicated and was causing a disturbance.

Video recorded inside the plane and later shared on social media shows a man loudly shouting obscenities and racial slurs while police escort him through the cabin.

At one point, the passenger appears to make shooting gestures with his hands while directing angry comments toward people around him.

Another traveler reportedly claimed the man had shouted “Death to America” and pretended to shoot fellow passengers before officers arrived.

Those additional allegations have not been independently confirmed, and authorities have not publicly explained what triggered the confrontation.

The footage also has not been independently verified as showing Anixter, although the flight details match the incident described by law enforcement.

Despite the tense atmosphere, the man seen in the video appears to smile at times as officers lead him toward the aircraft’s exit.

In another unusual moment, he encourages fellow passengers to record what is happening and share it on social media.

As he is escorted away, several passengers can be heard applauding, apparently relieved that the disturbance is coming to an end.

The incident unfolded around 1:30 p.m. while the aircraft remained at the gate at JFK Airport.

According to the Port Authority Police Department, officers responded after airline personnel reported a disruptive passenger who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Anixter was subsequently removed from the plane and arrested.

Authorities charged him with assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.

Police have not publicly detailed the alleged assault or identified anyone who may have been injured during the confrontation.

The episode disrupted travel plans for the 160 passengers and six crew members aboard the Atlanta-bound flight.

After police removed the passenger and airline personnel completed the necessary procedures, the plane departed approximately 45 minutes behind schedule.

Delta later issued a statement condemning the behavior and thanking law enforcement for its assistance.

“Delta has zero tolerance for disruptive behavior, and we thank law enforcement for their assistance in removing this unruly customer,” an airline spokesperson said.

The company also apologized to passengers for the frightening experience and the resulting delay.

The video quickly attracted attention online, with viewers reacting to the passenger’s offensive language, apparent shooting gestures and behavior as he was being escorted from the aircraft.

The incident comes amid continued concerns about unruly passengers on commercial flights.

Federal aviation rules prohibit travelers from interfering with flight crews, and serious violations can result in substantial civil penalties or criminal prosecution.

Airlines may also refuse transportation to passengers whose behavior threatens the safety or comfort of others.

Although Thursday’s confrontation occurred before takeoff, removing the passenger required police intervention and temporarily disrupted the flight.

The Federal Aviation Administration has repeatedly urged travelers to follow crew instructions and warned that threatening or abusive behavior aboard aircraft can carry serious consequences.

It remains unclear whether Anixter will face additional airline restrictions or federal penalties.

Authorities have not disclosed what caused the alleged outburst, and no public statement from Anixter or his attorney was immediately available.

The criminal charges remain allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

For the passengers aboard Flight 2342, the unexpected confrontation turned a routine trip into an ordeal that was captured on camera and quickly spread across the internet.

The plane eventually reached Atlanta, but not before one passenger’s alleged behavior brought police aboard and left dozens of travelers with a flight they won’t soon forget.
