In Harris County, Texas, a terrifying high-speed chase took an unsettling turn when mother Tenescha Henry, 35, used her daughter as a human shield to avoid capture. When Webster Police Department requested assistance from Harris County Precinct 8 Deputies during a pursuit involving a suspect car wanted in connection with a theft investigation, the stunning incident took place.

Following a tip from the Bellaire Police Department about the suspicious car, the Webster Police Department started a pursuit. When Webster police attempted to pull over the car for a broken lamp, Tenescha Henry, the driver, who was later identified, refused to stop, starting a high-speed chase. Henry increased her speed to almost 100 mph during the chase and made numerous unsafe lane changes, endangering herself and other drivers.

When the car ran out of petrol and came to a stop in the 14400 block of Cullen Boulevard, the thrilling chase came to an end. Sheriff’s deputies attempted to take the automobile down for a felony, but Henry fought and yanked a child passenger—later revealed to be her 14-year-old daughter—out of the vehicle. Henry put her kid in a chokehold and set her up in front of her as a human shield in a frightening display of desperation.

Henry urged the police to shoot throughout the standoff while her terrified daughter showed signs of dread and distress. Despite the stressful circumstances, a courageous deputy was able to position herself behind Henry and use a Taser to successfully subdue the suspect.

Authorities found 22 pieces of identifying information, including Texas driver’s licenses, Texas security licenses, Social Security cards, Lone Star EBT cards, credit/debit cards, and health insurance cards, inside the automobile after conducting a more thorough examination. Henry attempted to use the stolen credit/debit cards after the things were taken without permission.

Tenescha Henry is currently being prosecuted on a number of counts, including endangering a child, escaping arrest/detention with a vehicle, and fraudulent use/possession of identifying information. She was transferred to the Harris County jail, where her bonds for fleeing and endangering a child were set at $10,000 apiece.

The tragedy has left the neighborhood in shock and bewilderment, and many people are worried about the welfare of the young child who was caught in the perilous circumstance. Authorities are working to protect the 14-year-old girl’s safety and wellbeing while the investigation is still open.
