In a breathtaking moment caught on camera, 14-year-old Izzy Miller saved the day in Casino, New South Wales, Australia, by seizing control of a bus full of children that was about to crash. The bold action, which was captured on camera, demonstrates Izzy’s bravery and fast thinking as she prevented a catastrophe that may have had dire repercussions.
Izzy saw the incident happen as the bus crept closer to the Casino mini-mart and Liberty petrol station. She was shocked to see that nobody was in the driver’s seat. Telling Australia’s ABC News about the pivotal moments, Izzy said, “I turned back over for about two seconds after looking over to talk to my friend, and the bus started moving.” Additionally, nobody was behind the wheel.”
Izzy took quick action after realizing there might be a threat, putting the students’ safety first. “It was heading near the petrol tank, and no one was doing anything, so I jumped up, got into action, and steered away,” she recalled.
Izzy showed bravery by jumping into the driver’s seat, taking charge of the vehicle, and applying pressure to the brake pedal to see if that was the problem. Thankfully, she was able to stop the bus in time to avoid colliding with the petrol station.
The spectacular series of events was caught on camera by the North Casino Mini Mart’s surveillance system. Izzy was seen clinging to the rear-view window of the bus before getting inside. Izzy expertly maneuvered the bus away from the petrol pumps, protecting all of the students inside, even though there were people pursuing the about 20-student vehicle.
Erin Witton, the owner of the gas station, thanked Izzy for coming in just in time and emphasized the possible disaster that was averted. Witton honored Izzy as a hero by giving her a Certificate of Appreciation and a prize for her bravery. Witton thanked the young woman on Facebook, writing, “All the team at North Casino Mini Mart are in debt and just super thankful for this beautiful young lady.”
Rebecca Miller, Izzy’s mother, said that the school principal recognized Izzy’s vital role in averting a potentially tragic outcome and that the community is thanking her daughter.
The event is being looked into by the Richmond Police District, which emphasizes how dangerous the situation is and how important it is to protect school transportation. Izzy Miller is a great illustration of how anyone, at any age, can have a big influence when faced with unforeseen obstacles because of her fast thinking and bravery.
