Ambassador slams Soros for supporting ‘pro-Hamas groups

Gilad Erdan, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, is investigating billionaire left-wing activist George Soros for his alleged over $15 million donation to a network of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that back Hamas. Erdan claims that it is both terrible and predictable that Soros provides financial support to these groups, which ostensibly aim to destroy Israel as a Jewish state.

Erdan specifically draws attention to Soros’s involvement in the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which is directed against Israel. The German and Austrian parliaments have labeled the BDS movement as antisemitic, and its goal is to isolate the Jewish state. Erdan argues that Soros’s financial support has continuously benefited BDS-aligned organizations, implying that they have no genuine interest in advancing genuine peace or ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The recent October 7 invasion of southern Israel by Hamas, which claimed 1,200 lives, including more than 30 Americans, has heightened attention on Soros’s purported funding of non-governmental organizations that assist Hamas. Erdan charges Soros of funding organizations that have an anti-Israel agenda, pointing out that Soros has long backed groups that advance the BDS movement, which seriously undermines Israel’s legitimacy.

In her book “The Soros Agenda,” author Rachel Ehrenfeld discusses the direct and indirect funding that pro-Hamas and pro-Palestinian organizations receive from American foundations, such as Soros’s Open Society Foundations (OSF). President Biden’s special envoy to Iran, Robert Malley, a former CEO and president of the Soros-funded International Crisis Group, is another indication of Soros’s alleged affiliation with anti-Israel organizations.

Even though the EU and the US consider Hamas to be a foreign terrorist group, there are claims that OSF provided large sums of money to non-governmental organizations that have strong anti-Israel views. Investigations into OSF’s alleged payments to organizations that have been linked to Hamas and have been known to criticize Israel harshly have come to light recently.

When asked about its position on Hamas, the OSF remained evasive. Nonetheless, it denounced the assaults on Israeli nationals and demanded that those responsible for war crimes and violations of humanitarian law be held accountable. Regarding the sponsorship of organizations, the organization insisted on guaranteeing complete conformity with stringent U.S. anti-terrorist legislation.

George Soros’s position on the subject is demonstrated by his earlier criticisms of the Israeli and American administrations, particularly with regard to their failure to acknowledge Hamas as the rightful ruler of the Gaza Strip. Progressive NGOs like Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and IfNotNow, who detractors claim use their Jewish heritage to attack Israel and aid terrorists, receive funding from OSF.

Concerns concerning the Soros family’s position on Zionism surface when Alex Soros, his son, assumes leadership of his father’s $25 billion fortune. Amichai Chikli, Israel’s Minister of Social Equality and Diaspora Affairs, cast doubts about Alex Soros’s Zionist affiliation.

Requests for comment from the accused organizations—JVP, The Tides Center, and IfNotNow—were not immediately answered. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict’s intricate dynamics are further complicated by the issue surrounding Soros’s purported financial support to anti-Israel non-governmental organizations.
