In a dramatic showdown in a federal courthouse in downtown Los Angeles, Hunter Biden’s attempt to quash federal tax charges faced a cold reception from Judge Mark Scarsi, who appeared skeptical of the president’s son’s claims of being the target of a politically motivated prosecution.

With Biden absent, his defense team, led by high-profile attorney Abbe Lowell, argued vigorously to dismantle or outright dismiss the case. Lowell asserted that Biden had been unfairly singled out by special counsel David Weiss, alleging irregularities in the case’s initiation and investigation.

However, Judge Scarsi, a Trump appointee, grilled Lowell for concrete evidence of selective prosecution. Despite claims of Republican pressure influencing the case, Scarsi rebuffed assertions of political bias, challenging Lowell to substantiate the defense’s allegations.

The judge set a deadline of April 17 to rule on Biden’s motions to dismiss the charges, which include nine tax offenses, such as failure to file tax returns, inflating business expenses, and understating income.

Weiss alleges that Biden attempted to lower his tax liability by falsely categorizing personal expenses as business costs, including payments for his daughter’s tuition and stays at luxury hotels. Additionally, Biden faces separate charges in Delaware for illegal possession of a firearm as a drug user.

These cases emerged following the collapse of a previous plea deal, prompting Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint Weiss as special counsel. Despite Biden’s legal team’s efforts to halt proceedings, Wednesday’s hearing marked the first showdown in court.

In California, defense motions challenged the appointment of the special counsel and sought to transfer the case out of state. The debate intensified over the validity of a pretrial diversion agreement as part of the prior deal with the Justice Department.

Prosecutors dismissed the defense’s claims as “revisionist history” and vehemently denied allegations of partisan influence. Scarsi remained unconvinced, pressing Lowell to substantiate claims of external pressure on the prosecution.

Amidst the legal skirmish, Lowell pointed to a timeline of events surrounding Biden’s case, emphasizing Weiss’s appearance before Congress. However, Scarsi remained unpersuaded, demanding concrete evidence of political interference.

As the legal battle unfolds, the fate of Hunter Biden’s legal troubles hangs in the balance, with the courtroom drama underscoring the high stakes for the president’s embattled son.

  1. Was there political pressure to keep the case going when there was already a deal work out between the prosecutor and Hunter Biden….INDEED there was.
But at this point, let the chips fall where they may and also let us find the difference between Biden NOT pardoning his own son and Trump using the presidential pardon as a tool to keep his minions out of prison and to make money.

Of course, none of that will influence the MAGA cultists as if by now they have not figure out Trump is an evil selfish creature that is destroying America, they NEVER will.

    1. How you described Trump, fits the Biden’s to a tee. Yes, we know you hate Trump. Are you enjyong bidenomics??
