In a bombshell announcement late Friday night, Donald Trump sent shockwaves through the political world by accepting an offer from Fox News to debate Kamala Harris this September. The former president took to Truth Social to break the news, revealing that the showdown is set for September 4 in Pennsylvania, with Fox News stalwarts Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum at the helm.
Now, here’s where things get interesting. It remains unclear if Vice President Harris has agreed to this Fox News debate. The Post reached out to her camp, but no word yet. Harris, sticking to the script, has been pushing for Trump to adhere to the originally scheduled September 10 debate on ABC News. This was supposed to be a heavyweight bout between Trump and President Biden. But after Biden’s sudden exit from the race and Harris stepping in as the Democratic nominee, Trump has been crying foul, claiming the whole setup is far from “fair.”
And let’s not forget, Trump had already given the nod to the ABC News debate. But now, with Harris as the new face of the Democratic ticket, Trump’s crying conflict of interest due to his ongoing litigation with ABC and anchor George Stephanopoulos. In classic Trump fashion, he vented on Truth Social, “I spent Hundreds of Millions of Dollars, Time, and Effort fighting Joe, and when I won the Debate, they threw a new Candidate into the ring. Not fair, but it is what it is! Nevertheless, different Candidate or not, their bad Policies are the same, and this will be strongly revealed at the September 4th Debate.”
Trump also promised that the rules for this debate would mirror those of his face-off with “Sleepy Joe,” but this time, there’ll be a “FULL ARENA AUDIENCE” at a venue still under wraps.
Harris, on the other hand, has been adamant about sticking to the September 10 ABC debate. Originally, this was set to be a clash of the titans between Trump and Biden. But after Biden’s disastrous performance in their June debate and the subsequent mutiny within his party, it’s Harris who’s now front and center.
Despite not winning a single primary, Harris clinched the Democratic nomination on Friday, setting the stage for what promises to be an epic showdown. Trump, ever the showman, has been boasting about his triumph over Biden, a debate that was nothing short of a political bloodbath for the sitting president and catalyzed his fall from grace.
Harris, not one to shy away from a fight, threw down the gauntlet at a campaign rally on Tuesday. “Here’s the funny thing about that: So he won’t debate, but he and his running mate sure seemed to have a lot to say about me,” she jabbed, eliciting raucous cheers from the crowd. “I do hope you’ll reconsider and meet me on the debate stage, because, as the saying goes, ‘if you’ve got something to say, say it to my face!’”
As the political drama unfolds, one thing is certain: the upcoming debate, whether on Fox or ABC, is poised to be a no-holds-barred clash that will keep the nation riveted. Will Trump’s insistence on a Fox News debate prevail, or will Harris force his hand to stick to the original ABC plan? Either way, the sparks are about to fly, and the American people are here for it.
