Let’s talk about the latest twist in the saga of our nation’s second family, shall we? Second gentleman Doug Emhoff is back in the headlines, and this time, it’s not for his awkward attempts at diplomacy. No, it’s far more personal. Emhoff’s ex-wife, Kerstin Emhoff, jumped to his defense after he came clean about an affair during their marriage—yes, the marriage that ended over a decade and a half ago. Now, you’d think this would be the end of a scandalous revelation, but no, the plot thickens.
Kerstin Emhoff, standing by her former husband, is insisting that their split was due to a “variety of reasons.” She expressed her unwavering support for Doug, who is now hitched to Vice President Kamala Harris, after the news of his infidelity surfaced over the weekend. In a statement to the Washington Post, she said, “Doug and I decided to end our marriage for a variety of reasons, many years ago. He is a great father to our kids, continues to be a great friend to me and I am really proud of the warm and supportive blended family Doug, Kamala, and I have built together.”
Isn’t it heartwarming to see such a modern, blended family dynamic? Now, let’s dive into the juicy details. Emhoff’s affair wasn’t just a fleeting indiscretion—it was with a blonde nanny, Najen Naylor, who taught at the private school attended by their two kids. And, reportedly, this little liaison resulted in a pregnancy. Yes, you heard that right. The nanny got pregnant. A close friend with direct knowledge spilled the beans to the Daily Mail, although they kept the details vague. Naylor did not keep the baby, but the scandal of it all!
Doug Emhoff owned up to his past in a statement to CNN. He didn’t name Naylor or mention her alleged pregnancy, but he did say, “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side.”
Ah, yes, the old “we worked through things” line. But did they? The affair was disclosed to President Biden’s vetting committee four years ago before he chose Harris as his running mate. So, they knew about it, but apparently, it wasn’t enough to derail Harris’s rise to the vice presidency. Emhoff told Harris about the affair long before they got married, and the relationship with Naylor ended before Emhoff began dating Harris. How convenient.
Kerstin and Doug were married from 1992 to 2008, and he married Harris in 2014. The official divorce cited “irreconcilable differences,” but we all know what that’s code for. Despite this messy past, the couple has continued co-parenting alongside Harris. Kerstin has even shown support for Harris’s presidential bid, sharing her cover of Time magazine on her Instagram and rallying Democrats to unite against Trump.
Kerstin also defended Harris after JD Vance’s sexist comments. She told CNN, “For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been a co-parent with Doug and I. She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present. I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it.”
There you have it, folks. The second gentleman’s scandalous past is now public knowledge, but with his ex-wife and the vice president by his side, it seems like they’re all trying to present a united front. Whether this will affect the public’s perception remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure—D.C. drama never fails to entertain.

Of course that alimony might stop if the ex says any negatives. Harris and Doug deserve each other both adulterous people.
