It appears the Kamala Harris campaign is doing more than just knocking on doors and placing ads. According to an investigation from The Federalist, the Harris team is allegedly manipulating major online platforms — and possibly breaking rules in the process — to artificially inflate her popularity and shield her from fact-checks. This is an unprecedented strategy, one that raises serious questions about honesty, accountability, and the very fabric of our political discourse.

The Federalist report uncovers what seems to be a coordinated astroturfing operation running on Discord, where paid Harris campaign staffers organize to bolster the vice president’s image across the internet. Both Reddit and X (formerly known as Twitter) are allegedly targets in this scheme, as Harris staffers reportedly direct volunteers to flood threads with supportive content, up-vote posts, and down-vote anything critical. The goal? To make Harris look like a champion of the people, whether the people are actually cheering or not.
Consider the numbers: in just 15 days, these Harris-aligned accounts have pushed thousands of posts onto Reddit, racking up 5.7 million upvotes and over 400,000 comments. This isn’t some grassroots, organic support. It’s a digital juggernaut crafted by campaign strategists to shape the narrative and drown out dissent. According to The Federalist, 126 of the top 1,000 posts on the mega-popular “Politics” subreddit in the past month were allegedly created by Harris campaign volunteers — a staggering amount of influence from one camp.
On X, the manipulation appears to go even further. Harris staffers allegedly coordinate efforts to block “community notes,” fact-checks that appear under misleading posts to set the record straight. Elon Musk’s new system on X allows contributors to add a community note, which is then voted on to determine whether it will be publicly attached. But by organizing volunteers to mass-dislike unfavorable community notes, Harris’s team can effectively bury the truth.
The result? Pro-Harris accounts can spread questionable or outright false content without being flagged. Even CNN, which has not exactly been kind to Trump, has flagged misleading information from “KamalaHQ,” Harris’s official campaign account, and other pro-Harris accounts apparently linked to the administration.
Then there’s Google. According to reporting from Axios, the Harris campaign has been given the ability to alter headlines and subheadings on legacy media articles. You might search for health care information and see what looks like a headline from NPR — only to find out it’s been crafted by Harris’s campaign to make her look better. Headlines that might read “Harris to lower health care costs” aren’t really news stories; they’re camouflaged campaign propaganda.
News organizations like USA Today, the Associated Press, and NPR reportedly had no idea their headlines were being altered. And let’s be clear: Trump’s campaign isn’t engaging in this kind of digital sleight-of-hand. It’s a one-sided game, playing out on platforms that hold immense influence over public opinion.
One account, “Reddit Lies,” exposed this operation on Reddit but was quickly banned from the campaign-run Discord server where it all seems to be organized. Fortunately, they archived everything and are now releasing files to the public.
In response, Elon Musk has announced he’s launching an investigation into these allegations on X. If this all sounds like a sprawling, high-stakes manipulation of public perception, that’s because it is. And as the public becomes more aware of these strategies, the question is: how much can voters trust what they see online? This isn’t just about Kamala Harris’s popularity — it’s about preserving the integrity of democratic discourse and whether political campaigns will be allowed to game the system in the shadows.
