Pennsylvania’s John Fetterman is shaking up the Senate—and his own party is furious. Once a progressive darling, Fetterman now finds himself isolated, accused of embarrassing his fellow Democrats with stinging public criticism and unflinching support for Israel.

Frustration among top Democrats has boiled over. “His response is kind of baffling and makes it seem like he’s not really listening to what’s being said,” a senior Democratic staffer vented to CNN. “It’s a little embarrassing for him to say Democrats are silent.”

The uproar follows Fetterman’s blistering social media post during the recent Los Angeles riots. He posted an image of a burning car and a protester waving a Mexican flag, blasting his own party for “refusing to condemn” violence at the protests. “My party loses the moral high ground when we refuse to condemn setting cars on fire, destroying buildings, and assaulting law enforcement,” Fetterman declared.

But his colleagues are pushing back. One Democratic aide shot back, “Democrats have been united on this. What more does he want?”

Fetterman isn’t just riling fellow Democrats over L.A. His strident support for Israel—even as the Gaza war splits his party—has made him an outlier. Speaking to Fox News, Fetterman admitted he’s “unapologetically pro-Israel,” even if it leaves him standing alone. He doubled down in an interview with Jewish Insider, slamming progressives who criticized Israel’s strikes on Iran: “Do you want to run that scenario and allow them to acquire 1,000 pounds of weapons-grade uranium? I can’t even begin to understand that.”

Inside Democratic circles, tempers are flaring. “It’s astonishing that the people who helped elect him feel betrayed now,” one longtime party strategist told us. “He was supposed to be a progressive fighter, but he’s cozying up to Trump and siding with Republicans.”

Fetterman’s political realignment isn’t going unnoticed. He recently became the first Senate Democrat to meet with President Trump after his 2024 victory, and has publicly supported several Trump Cabinet picks—moves that have only deepened suspicion among party loyalists.

Meanwhile, questions about Fetterman’s mental health are swirling. A May New York Magazine exposé described erratic behavior, angry outbursts, and troubling isolation. Former chief of staff Adam Jentleson confessed in the profile, “I’m concerned he won’t be with us for much longer.” Fetterman, who suffered a major stroke in 2022, brushed off the story as a “hit piece” and has refused to step down.

The criticism is mounting. Former Rep. Conor Lamb, who once ran against Fetterman, didn’t hold back: “None of his political opponents are forcing him to miss votes, pass no legislation, or do nothing functional with the role. That’s his choice.”

With his party fuming, allies vanishing, and 2028 re-election looming, Fetterman faces a brutal fight to reclaim support. As of press time, his office remained silent.

One thing is clear: John Fetterman is now the Senate’s most unpredictable—and controversial—Democrat.
