A Lufthansa flight from San Francisco to Munich was forced to make an emergency landing in Boston after a passenger allegedly attacked another traveler in midair.

Flight LH459 took off from San Francisco on Thursday morning with 508 people on board when the onboard chaos unfolded, according to police.

Authorities said a female passenger attacked another passenger during the international flight, prompting the massive Airbus A380 to change course and make an urgent landing at Boston Logan International Airport.

“The reason for the diversion was an unruly passenger who posed a threat to the safe continuation of the flight,” a Lufthansa employee said after the incident.

The flight had been headed across North America toward Europe when it was forced to sharply change direction. It reportedly pivoted south toward Chicago from the Manitoba area before ultimately heading to Boston.

The woman was handcuffed to her seat until the plane landed safely at Logan, according to officials.

After the aircraft touched down, the woman’s luggage was removed from the plane and she was detained by authorities.

The incident remains under investigation.

No further details about the alleged attack or possible injuries were immediately released.
