A night of partying turned into absolute carnage in East Hollywood when a driver allegedly intentionally rammed his vehicle into a bustling crowd outside a nightclub early Saturday morning—leaving at least 30 injured, seven critically—before being dragged from his car, beaten, and shot by a bystander in a wild act of street justice.

It happened around 2 a.m. near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard, outside the popular venue The Vermont Hollywood, which had just hosted a packed event.

According to LAPD officials, surveillance footage is still being reviewed, but early findings suggest this was no accident. “The vehicle didn’t veer out of control—it aimed,” one law enforcement source told a local reporter.

Eyewitnesses described a horrific scene of screaming, blood, and chaos. Video from the aftermath shows bodies strewn across the sidewalk, a battered gray sedan resting half on the curb, and at least a dozen firefighters scrambling to assist the injured.

“It was like a war zone,” said one clubgoer who ran outside after hearing what he thought was gunfire. “There were people lying everywhere. I saw one girl with blood running down her legs—she couldn’t feel them. It was terrifying.”

The car reportedly smashed through a taco cart before barreling into the crowd. “It was just pure madness,” the witness said.

When the car came to a stop, the crowd didn’t wait for police. Several furious bystanders yanked the man from the driver’s seat and began assaulting him—kicking, punching, even throwing condiments at him, one video shows.

During the altercation, someone pulled a gun and shot the driver.

LAPD Sgt. Travis Ward said officers arrived to find the man on the ground, beaten and bleeding from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. Because of his condition, police haven’t been able to determine if he was drunk or high during the incident.

Police are hunting for the man who shot the driver. He’s described as Hispanic, about 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, bald, wearing a blue jersey, and possibly armed with a silver revolver. He fled west on foot.

“We’re asking anyone who may have seen or filmed this individual to come forward,” LAPD said in a statement.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the injured include 18 women and 12 men, mostly in their 20s and 30s. Seven are in critical condition, six are serious, and ten others are recovering from less severe injuries. Another seven declined medical assistance on-site.

124 emergency responders were dispatched to the scene. Patients were sent to several area hospitals, including Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center.

Mayor Karen Bass issued a statement calling the event “a heartbreaking tragedy,” promising a “full investigation into what happened.”

The Vermont Hollywood released a brief comment, saying: “We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure the person responsible for this horrific act is held fully accountable.”

The upscale venue, often used for live concerts and private parties, recently hosted a Grammy afterparty for singer SZA.

The investigation remains ongoing, but one thing is clear—Los Angeles was rocked to its core by what many are already calling an act of attempted mass murder. Whether the driver survives his injuries or not, the legal and social fallout is just beginning.

Anyone with information is urged to contact LAPD’s tip line immediately.
