Ireland Baldwin is setting the record straight about her stepmother, Hilaria Baldwin, in a heartfelt and surprising Instagram post.
Just days before Hilaria makes her debut on Dancing With the Stars, Ireland praised her as the driving force behind Alec Baldwin’s emotional healing.
“I think if people actually knew her the way I do, they would be quite surprised,” the 28-year-old model wrote. Calling Hilaria “loyal to a fault” and “totally batsh*t crazy—in the best, most fun way,” Ireland revealed that her stepmom “saved my dad’s life.”
Ireland went on to describe how Hilaria has helped Alec—who has faced years of personal and public controversies—find peace.
“She recognizes and nourishes the parts of my father that are the most compassionate and wonderful,” Ireland shared. “She’s taught him that it’s never too late to admit you need help, and it’s never too late to learn to be kind to yourself.”
According to Ireland, Hilaria’s influence has reshaped Alec’s relationship with his family, particularly with her. “Hilaria is the reason I am able to have the close relationship with my father that I do,” she wrote.
Alec and Ireland’s relationship has been notoriously complicated. In 2007, a voicemail Alec left for then-11-year-old Ireland went public, in which he called her a “rude, thoughtless little pig.”
