Country music star Colt Ford suffered a broken shoulder and had to be pulled through the shattered windshield of his tour bus after a frightening crash while traveling for a show in Germany.
Ford, 56, revealed the accident Wednesday, Aug. 12, sharing a startling photo showing his badly damaged bus sitting in heavy vegetation off the side of the road. The front of the vehicle and passenger side suffered significant damage, and the windshield was smashed out. A person could also be seen apparently positioning a stretcher through the windshield opening.
The exact location of the crash and what caused the bus to leave the road have not been publicly confirmed. One report said Ford was heading to the airport as part of his journey to Germany.
Ford described just how quickly his plans changed.
“One minute you’re headed to Germany for a show and prepping for single release the next thing you know your bus is in the ditch and you’re getting pulled through a windshield with a broken shoulder by First Responders,” he wrote.
“The crew is a little banged up but we’re all still here.”
No deaths were reported in the crash. Ford said members of his crew suffered some injuries, although no additional details about their conditions have been released.
The accident happened as Ford was preparing both for a European performance and the release of his new song, “Fake Redneck.”
Fellow country stars quickly flooded Ford’s social media with messages of support.
“Dang, brother. Glad y’all are OK, but a broken shoulder, not the break you needed. Prayers for a quick recovery, hang in there, bud,” Tracy Byrd wrote.
Drew Baldridge added, “Dang, man. So glad y’all are OK.”
Jake Owen wrote, “Glad y’all are OK, dude. You have endured some life. Love ya.”
George Birge, LoCash, Josh Ross, Meghan Patrick and other artists also sent prayers and messages wishing Ford and his crew a speedy recovery.
The crash is particularly frightening considering Ford survived a massive health emergency only two years ago.
In April 2024, Ford suffered a near-fatal heart attack after performing at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row in Gilbert, Arizona.
Ford has said he was declared clinically dead three times during the medical emergency and spent eight days in a coma. He later recalled that members of his band found him and realized something was terribly wrong.
“It’s just been a traumatic, crazy experience, guys,” Ford previously said. “I died three times.”
He credited doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix with saving his life and said one physician told him his odds of survival were extraordinarily low.
Ford ultimately underwent extensive medical treatment and surgery before beginning the difficult process of recovery.
He later made dramatic lifestyle changes, including losing more than 60 pounds and changing his diet and exercise habits.
Ford eventually returned to touring in 2025, but admitted getting back aboard a tour bus triggered serious anxiety because of what had happened during his heart attack.
“The first time I went to get back on the bus I started to step on it and I was like, ‘Wait, oh, last time I was on here y’all carried me off here dead,’” he previously recalled.
Ford said he even stopped sitting in the same place on his bus because it reminded him of the medical emergency.
Now, just over two years after nearly losing his life, Ford has survived yet another frightening ordeal on the road.
Before the crash, Ford was scheduled to perform at Tailgate X in Ballenstedt, Germany, on Saturday, Aug. 15. As of Thursday, Aug. 13, the event was still publicly listing Ford as a scheduled performer.
He is then scheduled to return to the United States for an Aug. 19 performance at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. The Iowa State Fair’s official website was also still listing Ford for an 8 p.m. performance as of Thursday.
There has been no confirmed announcement yet that either performance has been canceled because of Ford’s broken shoulder or the tour bus crash.
For now, Ford appears focused on the fact that despite the mangled bus, his broken shoulder and his injured crew members, everyone survived.
As he put it simply: “We’re all still here.”
