USPS Worker Shot in the Face During Dispute with Delivery Driver

What began as a routine Friday afternoon mail route turned into a horrific scene at an apartment complex in Everett, Washington, when a U.S. Postal Service worker was shot in the face during a confrontation with another delivery driver.

Police responded to reports of a shooting at the West Mall Place Apartments around 12:50 p.m., according to local station KOMO. When officers arrived, they found the postal worker seriously injured and in need of immediate medical attention.

Authorities say the mail carrier, whose name has not been released, was in the middle of delivering mail when an argument broke out with another delivery driver in the complex. According to U.S. Postal Inspector John Wiegand, that confrontation escalated quickly.

“A small altercation took place where unfortunately the carrier was shot in the face,” Wiegand confirmed.

The victim was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Police later took the suspect into custody and said he would be booked into the Snohomish County Jail Friday night.

Though officials have not confirmed whether the shooter was an Amazon driver, witnesses at the scene reportedly told investigators the man claimed responsibility and informed staff at the apartment office that he had shot a postal worker.

Both the USPS truck and an Amazon delivery van were towed from the scene later in the day, according to KOMO.

As the investigation continues, the motive remains unclear, and the names of both the victim and the suspect have not been released.

Neighbors at the complex expressed shock and heartbreak at the violence, saying the area had always felt safe.

“It’s just heartbreaking,” said Jelani Jones, a resident. “I know him as the mailman, he’s a good dude. I can’t believe that. He’s always good with people in our neighborhood.”
