Beloved NHL Reporter and Her 3 Children Killed

A tight-knit hockey community is in shock after a horrifying early-morning house fire claimed the lives of a beloved NHL reporter and her three young children.

Jessi Pierce, 37, a longtime voice covering the Minnesota Wild, was killed alongside her kids in a fast-moving blaze that tore through their home in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, on Saturday.

Fire crews rushed to the scene just before 5:30 a.m. after frantic neighbors called 911. By the time first responders arrived, the home was already engulfed in flames.

Inside, firefighters discovered the unthinkable — one adult and three children dead. A family dog also perished in the fire.

Officials have not publicly confirmed identities, but the NHL and the Minnesota Wild both released emotional statements confirming Pierce and her children were the victims.

“The entire National Hockey League family sends our prayers and deepest condolences,” the league said. “Jessi loved the game and was a valued voice for over a decade. We will miss her terribly.”

The Minnesota Wild echoed the heartbreak, calling Pierce “kind, compassionate, and deeply devoted to her family.”

“She was more than a reporter — she was an ambassador for hockey in Minnesota,” the team said.

Just hours before tragedy struck, Pierce had shared joyful moments online — posting photos of a simple family outing to a local ice cream shop, smiling alongside her children.

Those images are now haunting reminders of a life cut brutally short.

Pierce spent the last 10 years covering the Wild for NHL.com and was widely respected across the league. She also contributed to The Athletic, USA Hockey, and multiple regional publications, and co-hosted the popular “Bardown Beauties” podcast.

Colleague Michael Russo delivered a gut-wrenching tribute, describing Pierce as “the life of the party” and someone who “had a way of being everybody’s friend.”

He said her greatest joy, however, was being a mother.

“She absolutely loved her kids and did everything she could to bring them happiness,” he wrote. “Life can be unbearably unfair sometimes.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
