Things got out of control fast on a flight headed to Mexico, and it ended with multiple passengers in handcuffs before the plane even left the ground.
Ten passengers were arrested after allegedly refusing to follow basic instructions from the flight crew, turning what should’ve been a routine trip to Cabo San Lucas into a chaotic scene on the runway. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, officers were called to Vancouver International Airport early Saturday morning, April 11, after reports of disruptive behavior spiraled out of control.
Authorities say the group was not cooperating with crew directions, which immediately raised red flags for safety. While officials haven’t released a play-by-play of what happened, situations like this typically involve passengers ignoring seatbelt rules, arguing with flight attendants, or behaving aggressively — all things that can quickly escalate inside a confined aircraft.
And this clearly did.
Before the plane could even leave the ground, crew members made the call to stop the flight entirely. WestJet confirmed that what they described as a “safety concern” forced them to remove the passengers before departure. Everyone on board was asked to deplane while police stepped in to handle the situation.
Ten people were taken into custody, with recommended charges including mischief and failing to comply with flight crew — a sign that whatever was happening wasn’t just minor complaining or restlessness.
The disruption delayed the flight, but once the situation was under control, the Boeing 737 MAX eventually departed and landed safely in Cabo San Lucas later that day. No injuries were reported.
For now, the exact details remain under wraps, but one thing is clear: whatever these passengers were doing crossed the line from annoying to dangerous — and forced an entire flight to shut down before it even got off the ground.
