Tourist Killed During Dream Vacation After Teen Throws Statue from Balcony

A horrifying moment caught on camera has left people around the world stunned after a tourist celebrating her birthday was killed in the most unthinkable way.

Chiara Jaconis, 30, was enjoying what was supposed to be a dream getaway in Naples, Italy when tragedy struck without warning. She and her boyfriend were walking down a quiet street when, out of nowhere, a heavy onyx statue came crashing down from above—thrown from a third-floor balcony by a 13-year-old boy.

The object, weighing about four pounds, hit Jaconis directly in the head.

Disturbing surveillance footage shows the exact moment everything changed. Jaconis instantly collapsed to the ground, while her boyfriend stood frozen in shock before desperately calling out for help as the reality of the situation set in.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and transported her to a nearby hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery. Despite their efforts, she died two days later from severe traumatic brain injuries.

Jaconis, an Italian national, had been working for the luxury fashion brand Prada in Paris and was walking slightly ahead of her boyfriend through Naples’ Spanish Quarters when she was struck.

Now, the case is taking a complicated legal turn.

Because the boy accused of throwing the statue is under 14, Italian law prevents him from being held criminally responsible. Instead, prosecutors have filed negligent manslaughter charges against his parents, arguing the tragedy could have been prevented with proper supervision.

The parents, however, are pushing back hard. They deny any wrongdoing and are even challenging the court’s decision to clear their son based solely on his age. They argue he should be fully cleared on the facts of the case—not just because he’s a minor.

A preliminary hearing is set for June 26, as the case continues to spark outrage and raise difficult questions about accountability.
