Mauro’s father, Greg Mauro, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a Facebook post on Tuesday, revealing that his son passed away on April 23.
“With many tears and broken hearts, yet anchored in the unshakable certainty that our precious Josh Mauro is now healed and made new — living in the presence of the Lord — we humbly covet your prayers as our family walks through the devastating loss of our amazing son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend,” Greg wrote.
He added a deeply emotional message about his son’s final moments.
“On Thursday, April 23rd, Josh breathed his last breath on this Earth and his first breath in heaven. The Lord has been our strength in this unimaginable moment. Your prayers for continued strength and comfort mean more to us than words could ever express.”

Mauro carved out a solid career in the National Football League after entering the league as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford. Known for his size, toughness, and versatility on the defensive line, he spent time with multiple teams over several seasons.
He began his career with the Arizona Cardinals, where he worked his way into the rotation and earned a reputation as a reliable contributor. He later went on to play for the New York Giants and the Oakland Raiders, appearing in dozens of games throughout his career.
