A night out in Pennsylvania turned into a nightmare after a mom of three was shot and killed while trying to help someone in danger — a moment her family says shows exactly who she was.
Jessica Hilliard, 34, was gunned down outside Niki’s Quick Six in Parks Township late Saturday night after stepping in to help a woman who had just been attacked.
According to her family, the situation unfolded just before 1 a.m. when a woman ran into the bar, saying she had been jumped outside. Hilliard and others rushed out to try to break up the situation.
What happened next turned deadly.
Police say the suspect, identified as 36-year-old David Dunmire, allegedly pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots into the crowd as he tried to flee.
Hilliard was struck several times in the chest.
Three other people — a 24-year-old woman, a 25-year-old man, and a 34-year-old man — were also shot during the chaos.
Despite emergency efforts, Hilliard did not survive.
Her family says she died doing what she had always done — helping others.
“Our sister died a hero,” one family member said, describing her as someone who would step in to help anyone, whether she knew them or not.
Police say surveillance footage shows the suspect firing several rounds during the incident. He was taken into custody at the scene and is now facing multiple charges, including several counts of criminal homicide.
As the community mourns, loved ones are remembering Hilliard not just as a victim — but as someone who put others before herself in her final moments.
For her family, that’s how they want her to be remembered.
