Toddler Saved by Neighbors After Terrifying Fall from Fourth-Story Balcony (Video)

A shocking video out of Colombia captured the terrifying moment a 2-year-old boy dangled from a fourth-story balcony before plunging toward the ground as horrified neighbors screamed below.

The heart-stopping incident happened around 9 p.m. on May 7 in Bogotá after the toddler was allegedly left home alone while his father stepped out to buy cigarettes.

Video shared online shows the small child clinging desperately to the outside edge of the apartment building while panicked residents gathered underneath, shouting and trying to figure out how to save him.

At one point, the toddler appears to lose his grip completely and falls from the balcony, reportedly striking part of the building on the way down.

Miraculously, neighbors waiting below managed to catch him using blankets, jackets, and other clothing they stretched out like a makeshift safety net.

Witnesses said at least six people rushed together beneath the balcony after spotting the child standing dangerously close to the edge with only a narrow ledge beneath his feet.

The boy’s father, whose identity has not been released, later admitted he had left the apartment before the terrifying fall.

“I went out for a moment with my brother to buy some cigarettes,” the father told local media. “We wanted to smoke them outside so we would not fill the apartment with smoke because there is a small child there.”

“When we came back from the shop, the child was already on the balcony, and everything had happened,” he added.

According to the father, the toddler escaped the terrifying ordeal without fractures and was left in “good condition.”

Family members reportedly told local media the little boy may have climbed onto the balcony edge using brick blocks attached to the wall.

One neighbor said they immediately feared something was wrong after spotting the child leaning dangerously over the edge while apparently alone inside the apartment.

“What I imagined was that a child should not be there alone and should be with someone,” the neighbor said. “I started talking to him, he started turning around, and he was left holding on only with his arms.”

Local reports say child protection officials are now investigating the incident and reviewing the safety conditions inside the family’s home.
