Jeffrey Epstein’s former cellmate is now at the center of another explosive twist in the never-ending mystery surrounding the disgraced financier’s final days behind bars.
Nick Tartaglione, a former police officer now serving four life sentences for the kidnapping and murders of four men, allegedly claimed he was the one who saved Epstein’s life after the convicted sex offender’s first reported suicide attempt in July 2019.
The story has resurfaced after an alleged Epstein suicide note was unsealed by a federal judge, reigniting questions about what really happened inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center before Epstein was later found dead.
According to writer Jessica Reed Kraus, Tartaglione claimed Epstein had been lying in their shared cell and appeared to be asleep. He said Epstein was snoring loudly, so Tartaglione put on headphones and went to sleep.
But at some point during the night, Tartaglione allegedly felt something hit his leg.
When he opened his eyes and adjusted to the darkness, he said he saw Epstein hanging, with his eyes partly open.
Tartaglione allegedly claimed he grabbed a small grooming razor that inmates were allowed to have, cut Epstein down, and began chest compressions while yelling for guards.
He said Epstein started breathing again before officers arrived.
The bizarre episode only deepened the strange connection between the two inmates. Epstein had previously accused Tartaglione of trying to attack him, while Tartaglione later claimed he found a note allegedly written by Epstein after the failed suicide attempt.
The note, reportedly torn from a yellow legal pad, was allegedly found tucked inside a graphic novel after Epstein was moved out of their cell and placed on suicide watch.
The note read: “They investigated me for months — FOUND NOTHING!!! It is a treat to be able to choose one’s time to say goodbye. Watcha want me to do — Bust out cryin!! NO FUN – NOT WORTH IT!!”
Tartaglione said he handed the note over to his legal team because he feared Epstein might accuse him of more violence.
One month later, Epstein was found dead in his jail cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges involving minors.
His death was officially ruled a suicide by hanging, but the ruling has never silenced the storm of speculation. Conspiracy theories exploded almost immediately, with many questioning how one of the most high-profile inmates in America could die while in federal custody.
Medical examiner Dr. Kristin Roman initially marked Epstein’s autopsy report as “pending studies.” Days later, chief medical examiner Barbara Sampson ruled his death a suicide after reviewing the investigation.
Dr. Roman later said the case was “pretty clear-cut,” adding: “His manner of death is suicide… His cause of death is hanging, and his manner of death is suicide.”
But Epstein’s brother, Mark Epstein, has blasted the official finding.
“They’re either lying, they’re incompetent, or they’re wrong,” he previously said.
Now, with Tartaglione’s alleged account back in the spotlight, the disturbing details of Epstein’s first suicide attempt are raising fresh questions about the jailhouse failures, strange inmate pairings, and secrets still surrounding one of the most controversial deaths in modern American history.
