A shocking confrontation inside an Indiana Tim Hortons ended in tragedy after a 75-year-old woman collapsed and died following a fight with coffee shop workers.

Anita Grayson was seen on surveillance footage inside the Fort Wayne restaurant on May 13 after reportedly complaining about a mistake in her drive-thru order.

What started as a dispute over food quickly spiraled into chaos.

According to police, Grayson began berating young employees inside the store. The situation escalated after a 20-year-old worker told her to leave.

Police said Grayson then forcefully shoved that worker and another employee. Investigators also said she struck one worker in the face and pulled out a lock of her hair.

A worker then swung her arms at Grayson and knocked the elderly woman to the floor, according to authorities.

Grayson was able to get back up, and the store manager reportedly brought her a cup of water in an attempt to calm her down.

But about 10 minutes later, when officers arrived, Grayson was unresponsive.

She received medical attention at the restaurant but was pronounced dead after suffering what police described as a heart attack.

The case exploded online after Grayson’s daughter, Tawnda, shared a portion of the surveillance footage showing her mother being knocked down. The clip sparked outrage and calls for the Tim Hortons workers to be arrested.

Police later released a fuller version of the footage, saying the shorter clip did not show what happened before the fall. The department said it hoped the complete context would help ease public concern after the video spread online.

But Tawnda said she is still not satisfied with the police response.

“My mother was wronged in the worst way,” she told 21Alive. “I lost the matriarch of my family.”

She said an anonymous person texted her the surveillance video, and she felt it was an answer to prayer because she needed to know what happened inside the restaurant.

“I just called out to God, we need to see it,” Tawnda said. “I have to see that — please show me — because I need to at least know how, why.”

Tawnda said her mother had congestive heart failure, but she still believes the confrontation played a role in her death.

“You should not enter a coffee shop for a coffee and a doughnut and come out unalived,” she said. “That is diabolical.”

The Allen County Coroner’s Office has not yet issued a final ruling on Grayson’s cause and manner of death. Preliminary findings reportedly showed there were “no significant contributory injuries” tied to her heart attack.

Still, Grayson’s family says the way she was treated was unacceptable.

“That’s an elderly lady. That’s not how we treat our senior citizens,” Tawnda said. “We be careful with them. We make sure that they’re alright. We don’t jump on them and attack them. And scare them to death.”

Following the backlash, the Fort Wayne Police Department urged the public to allow the review process to continue based on the full evidence, not incomplete clips or online claims.

Tim Hortons also responded to the incident, saying the company was deeply saddened by Grayson’s death.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the loved ones of Anita Grayson,” a spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

The company said the health and safety of guests and workers remains its top priority and that the local franchisee is fully cooperating with police.

For now, the case remains under review as Grayson’s family demands answers and the public debates how a coffee shop complaint turned into a deadly confrontation.

  1. This woman started this and she is the only one there that knows she has heart failure. She made her choice when she put her hands on someone over food, which makes you just look pathetic to begin with. So stupid but brought this on herself. I don’t care if you’re a senior citizen or not you don’t get to put your damn hands on people over nothing. If you do expect to get hit back that’s how it works. I am a senior and this daughter needs to put the blame where it belongs on her mother. Nobody needs to tolerate anyone putting their hands on them. Nobody at that restaurant should be charged it was self defense.
