A Disneyland ride turned into a frightening real-life scare when a 13-year-old boy climbed out of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure before the attraction was over and had to be taken to the hospital.

The incident happened Sunday, June 21, at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, on the popular log flume ride, which ends with a dramatic drop of about 50 feet.

According to reports, the teen exited his ride vehicle before the attraction had finished. Disneyland staff quickly stopped the ride and assisted the boy after he continued along part of the ride path.

TMZ reported that the boy got out just before the big drop and slid down the steep plunge on his own. Other witnesses online also claimed he went down the final waterfall after leaving the log.

Disneyland officials have not publicly confirmed every detail of the witnesses’ accounts, but the boy was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. He was evaluated and later released.

The Anaheim Fire Department also responded to the scene.

One Reddit user who claimed to have seen the incident said their own ride vehicle was passing by when they saw the boy go down the drop. The witness said the ride was stopped for about 10 minutes before it eventually restarted.

The same witness claimed that when guests got off the attraction, several Disney security officers were waiting near a woman and two children who appeared to be soaked from the ordeal.

The ride was inspected afterward by California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health. By Monday, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure had been cleared to reopen and was operating again.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened at Disneyland in November 2024 after replacing Splash Mountain. The ride is based on Disney’s 2009 animated movie The Princess and the Frog and is known for its colorful bayou scenes, music and big final plunge.

The incident quickly sparked discussion among Disney fans online, with many questioning how a young guest was able to get out of the ride vehicle so close to one of the attraction’s most dramatic moments.

Thankfully, the teen was released from the hospital, and officials say the ride was cleared after inspection.
