A 14-year-old girl who was found dead in a park two days after she disappeared is believed to have suffered multiple stab wounds to her neck and upper body, an inquest has heard.
Lilly Anne Jones was discovered in a wooded area near Duffryn Park in Blaina, South Wales, on June 22. She had been reported missing from her home two days earlier.
During the opening of an inquest at Gwent Coroner’s Court on Monday, officials revealed that Lilly had injuries to her chest and neck when she was found.
A 14-year-old boy has since been charged with her murder. He appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on June 29 but cannot be identified because of his age.
The court heard that Lilly was last seen on High Street in Blaina at around 6:50 p.m. on June 20. She was reported missing from her home later that same evening.
Her body was found shortly after 10 p.m. on June 22 in a wooded location. She was pronounced dead at 10:45 p.m.
Senior Coroner Caroline Saunders said a postmortem examination had been carried out by Dr. Richard Jones, who provided a preliminary cause of death.
“The medical cause of death he has provided me with is 1A, multiple stab wounds to the neck and trunk,” Saunders said.
The inquest was then adjourned while authorities continue their investigation. A provisional date of April 6, 2027, has been scheduled for the full hearing.
Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke, the Recorder of Cardiff, set a trial date for Nov. 23. The murder trial is expected to last about four weeks.
The accused teenager did not enter a plea and was ordered to remain in custody until his next court appearance.
Police previously said the boy is from the Blaenau Gwent area of southeast Wales and described him as white British.
