A chaotic Fourth of July block party in South Carolina spiraled into violence after a group of young people was caught on camera attacking a female police officer as another officer fought to pull her to safety.
The disturbing footage emerged after the Saturday night gathering in North Charleston, where police had been called to reports of gunfire and people shooting fireworks at passing vehicles.
Video from the scene appears to show a young woman punching the officer in the face while a young man holds her down. Another woman then joins the attack and strikes the officer with what appears to be a baton.
A second officer rushed in and pushed the woman holding the object to the ground before grabbing another person involved in the brawl. He eventually deployed his Taser, causing several members of the crowd to scatter.
The young man continued holding the female officer down during the struggle. The assisting officer then pressed his knee against the man’s chest, forcing him to release his grip.
The man was later placed in handcuffs along with another individual as a large crowd watched from nearby.

North Charleston police said two officers were assaulted after responding to the block party. Authorities were initially called because people were reportedly firing guns and launching fireworks at passing vehicles.
When officers arrived, they were told that several people had begun firing weapons. The fighting erupted soon afterward.
Police Chief Ron Camacho said both injured officers were women. They suffered minor injuries and have already returned to work.
Four people were arrested after the melee, including three minors and one adult. Camacho warned that investigators expect to make additional arrests as they review police body-camera footage and other videos from the scene.
“What you got on that social media, you’re looking at one little snippet, at one little video,” Camacho told reporters during a news conference. “We were out there for an extended period of time.”
Officers later recovered multiple firearms and what police described as a makeshift spear from the area. The department released photographs of the weapons following the incident.
The footage quickly spread across social media and drew a reaction from conservative political commentator Ann Coulter.
Coulter wrote on X that the parents of the young people involved should be barred from receiving federal assistance. She also criticized the decision to deploy what she described as a “small blonde woman” as a police officer at the event.
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson also condemned the violence in a statement posted on X.
“The violence we witnessed in North Charleston is unacceptable,” Wilson wrote. “There is no place in South Carolina for mob violence or attacks on law enforcement.”
He added that anyone accused of attacking an officer, firing a weapon into a crowd or threatening public safety should be arrested, prosecuted and held accountable.
“South Carolina is a state of law and order,” Wilson said. “We will not tolerate mob rule.”
The North Charleston Police Department issued a similar warning, saying attacks on officers would not be tolerated.
“Attacks on law enforcement are unacceptable and those responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” the department said.
Police added that protecting residents and visitors remains their highest priority and thanked the many attendees who followed officers’ instructions during the chaotic response.
