A 15-year-old girl accused of pushing a man from a moving Chicago train will remain in custody after a judge found probable cause on multiple felony charges.
Chicago police arrested the teenager Friday, four days after 29-year-old Kyle Bickham was killed near the CTA Red Line’s 69th Street station.
Authorities say the girl used force to push Bickham from the moving train around 2:30 p.m. Monday.
He fell onto the tracks, came into contact with the electrified third rail and was then struck by another train.
Bickham’s death was ruled a homicide.
His family said he had been heading home to Lansing after finishing a shift at an Amazon warehouse in Cicero when the deadly attack happened.
Police later identified the 15-year-old as the suspected attacker.
She has been charged with first-degree murder, mob action, murder by other forcible felony and aggravated battery to a transit employee.
The teenager appeared in juvenile court Saturday.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said the judge found probable cause on all counts and ordered her to remain in custody.
Bickham’s family has been left devastated by the sudden loss.
His death has also renewed concerns about safety on Chicago’s public transit system.
The case comes as the new Northern Illinois Transit Authority takes over the CTA, Metra and Pace systems, with rider safety already a major issue.
The teen is scheduled to return to court on Monday, Sept. 14.
