A multi-state manhunt for two North Carolina murder suspects came to a dramatic end in Ohio after the pair crashed during a high-speed police chase and were later found dead inside their vehicle.
Camryn Moore, 26, and Cory Armstrong, 29, had been wanted in connection with a deadly shooting at a home in Gastonia, North Carolina, that left two people dead and two others critically wounded.
The pair were found dead Friday after leading law enforcement on an intense 20-minute pursuit near Athens, Ohio, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Police said Moore was driving when she swerved off the road and crashed into a ditch while trying to avoid spike strips that troopers had placed across the roadway.
North Carolina authorities said the deaths were being investigated as a possible double-suicide, although Ohio State Highway Patrol officials had not publicly confirmed that conclusion.
The manhunt began after a deadly shooting Thursday morning at a home on Forbes Road in Gastonia.
Gaston County police responded around 8:43 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire inside the residence.
Authorities said all six people involved in the incident, including Moore and Armstrong, lived at the home.
Victoria “Heather” Moore, 50, and Josiah Bumgardner, 38, were found dead at the scene.
Victoria was Camryn Moore’s mother, while Bumgardner was her uncle, according to police and family information.
Family members said Bumgardner had previously transitioned and was identifying as male.
Two other victims were rushed to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police said Friday that both remained in critical but stable condition.
Investigators have not revealed what may have sparked the shooting.
Police said Moore and Armstrong fled the home immediately afterward.
Detectives later obtained arrest warrants charging both suspects with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Authorities tracked the pair across state lines before Ohio troopers spotted their vehicle and attempted to stop them.
What followed was a roughly 20-minute chase that ended when the vehicle left the road while apparently trying to avoid the spike strips.
The pair were later found dead inside.
Gaston County police said the investigation is still active as detectives work to determine the motive and full circumstances surrounding the deadly attack.
