Two Passengers Physically Restrained Mid-Flight After Gun Threats Spark Chaos

Two airline passengers had to be physically restrained and cuffed to their seats after allegedly making violent threats during a long-haul flight from Australia to the Middle East.

The incident unfolded aboard Virgin Australia flight VA7, operated by Qatar Airways, after the plane left Melbourne Airport around 4 p.m. local time on Friday, Sept. 11, bound for Doha, Qatar.

Authorities arrested two men when the flight landed in Doha after they allegedly threatened passengers and crew members and claimed they had a gun.

One female passenger said the men appeared “extremely agitated and restless” from the moment they boarded.

She said they repeatedly got out of their seats, moved around the cabin, entered her personal space and touched or moved her belongings.

The men were also reportedly rummaging through their luggage and claiming they were trying to find missing items.

Things became much more serious about six hours before the plane was scheduled to land.

Witnesses said the two men began arguing and fighting, forcing flight attendants and passengers to step in.

Video from the flight reportedly showed crew members struggling to control the men as the situation grew increasingly chaotic.

One witness described the ordeal as terrifying and said the passengers were extremely aggressive.

The witness praised the Qatar Airways flight attendants, saying crew members spent hours trying to keep the situation under control and were allegedly physically attacked in the process.

Another passenger claimed the men were headbutting and spitting at crew members.

At one point, each man reportedly required at least six people to restrain him.

Passengers said the men also shouted about wanting to hurt or shoot people, adding to fears inside the cabin.

Despite the chaos, the crew was eventually able to restrain both men and keep them secured for the remainder of the flight.

Police were waiting when the aircraft arrived in Doha.

Qatar Airways later confirmed that two male passengers had been involved in a physical altercation aboard the flight.

“Both passengers were restrained and, upon arrival in Doha, were handed over to local authorities,” the airline said.

Qatar Airways added that the safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew remained its highest priority.

Virgin Australia, Melbourne Airport and Hamad International Airport did not immediately comment on the incident.

No injuries were publicly confirmed, and authorities have not released the names of the two men.
