A burst of gunfire shattered the early-morning calm in a Los Angeles suburb Thursday, leaving four people injured and sending police scrambling to find whoever opened fire.
The shooting erupted shortly after 2 a.m. near Crenshaw Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue in Hawthorne, according to police.
Officers were called to the area after reports of gunshots and screaming.
By the time they arrived, the scene was chaotic.
Three adults were found suffering from gunshot wounds in different areas around the shopping plaza and nearby street.
Some victims were discovered in separate parking lots, while another was near a bus stop.
All three were rushed to hospitals.
Police later learned that a fourth person connected to the shooting had shown up at another hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately released.
Video posted from the area captured the chilling sound of multiple bursts of gunfire ringing out in the darkness.
At least several shots can be heard over the course of the clip as people scream nearby.
Witnesses reportedly told authorities that a group had been gathered in the area and that an argument broke out shortly before the shooting.
Investigators have not yet said what the dispute was about or whether the victims knew the shooter or shooters.
Multiple law enforcement agencies flooded the area, including officers from Hawthorne, Gardena and Hermosa Beach.
Los Angeles County firefighters also responded and transported the injured.
Police said no officers fired their weapons during the response.
As of the latest update, no arrests had been announced and police had not released a description of any suspect.
Authorities also have not said how many shooters may have been involved.
The shooting remains under investigation as detectives work to determine what triggered the violence and who was responsible.
Hawthorne is located in Los Angeles County’s South Bay region, just southwest of downtown Los Angeles.
