Terrifying Video Shows Plane Nearly Crashing Into Cars on Busy Highway

Drivers on a busy Michigan highway were stunned when a small airplane suddenly descended toward traffic, forcing its pilot to make a dramatic emergency landing after the aircraft’s engine failed.

The frightening incident unfolded Saturday afternoon, October 10, along Interstate 69 in Flint Township, just outside Flint, as the single-engine plane approached Bishop International Airport.

According to Flint Township police, the pilot was preparing to land at the airport when a mechanical failure caused the engine to stall, leaving the aircraft without power.

With the airport still out of reach, the pilot had little choice but to attempt an emergency landing along the highway near Interstate 75 and the Bristol Road exit.

Heart-stopping footage captured by a passing motorist shows the aircraft descending dangerously close to moving vehicles before coming down along the highway’s shoulder.

In the video, a woman watching the scene unfold can be heard expressing disbelief as she realizes the plane is about to land directly in front of traffic.

Despite the potentially deadly situation, the pilot, who was the only person aboard, survived without injuries. Police confirmed that no motorists were hurt and no vehicles were damaged.

Bishop International Airport identified the aircraft as a DA-20, a small, single-engine airplane commonly used for flight training and recreational flying.

The emergency landing brought traffic to a standstill as authorities shut down westbound lanes of I-69 near Bristol Road. According to Michigan Department of Transportation reports, the closure lasted from approximately 3:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Airport officials responded to assist with the incident but confirmed that regular flight operations were unaffected.

Flint Township police are now working with the Federal Aviation Administration and airport authorities to investigate the mechanical failure and determine what caused the engine to stop.

Although the landing ended without injuries, the remarkable footage shows just how close passing drivers came to an unexpected encounter with an airplane on one of Michigan’s busiest interstate corridors.
