One woman was killed and another was injured after a dog attack at an animal rescue facility in Broward County, NBC2 affiliate WFTS reports.

Just before 11 a.m. Thursday one of the dogs described as a 3-year-old mixed breed named Gladys suddenly turned on one of women working at the shelter, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and firefighters responded to 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida on Commerical Boulevard after reports of a dog bite.

Deputies said the second woman was injured while trying to help the woman who was being attacked.

Both of the women were taken to a local hospital for treatment where one of the women was later pronounced dead while the other suffered minor injuries, officials said.

The identities of the women have not yet been released.

Deputies said the dog was later humanely euthanized.
