In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl was shot at random while shopping with her mother at a Walmart store in Aiken, South Carolina. The incident took place on Wednesday night and has left the community in disbelief and seeking answers.

According to local news outlet WJBF, the shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the Walmart located in Aiken, just 15 miles from the Georgia border. Witnesses at the scene recounted the harrowing event, with one individual describing how the shooter approached the young victim and fired without provocation.

Kari Johnson, a witness at the store, shared her account with WJBF, stating, “She was with her mom; she was actually looking at a pair of shorts, and out of nowhere, a guy just walked up and shot her. It actually went through her arm and into her abdomen.” The sudden and senseless act of violence has left the community shaken and searching for answers.

Authorities swiftly responded to the incident, and 32-year-old Stephen Foreman was arrested in connection with the shooting. Law enforcement officials have stated that Foreman has no known relationship with the victim, further adding to the perplexity surrounding the motive behind the attack. He has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.

The victim has been identified as Ashton Rickard by The Augusta Press, and her aunt, Jamie Hammons, provided updates on her condition on social media. Hammons revealed that Rickard was shot at point-blank range and has already undergone one surgery. She also expressed concerns that further surgeries may be necessary, as the bullet broke her niece’s arm and remains lodged in her back.

Rickard’s mother, Ashley Rickard, expressed her distress over the incident and the extent of her daughter’s injuries. The community has rallied around the family, offering support and prayers for Ashton’s recovery.

As investigators work to determine the motive behind the shooting, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the alarming frequency of random acts of violence that can disrupt the lives of innocent individuals. The Aiken community, along with concerned citizens across the nation, hopes for justice for Ashton Rickard and for an end to such senseless acts of violence.

  1. Anyone shooting anyone must be penalized by death, and watch the shootings come to an end, and as a lesson to other potential shooters.
