Spike in Number of Illegal Chinese Migrants Threatens National Security

The surge of Chinese nationals arriving at the U.S. border illegally has skyrocketed by a staggering 6,300%, igniting serious national security concerns. With 22,233 encounters recorded so far in fiscal year 2024, the numbers are ringing alarm bells across the board.

To put this into perspective, last year’s total of 24,125 encounters was already a monumental increase over the previous years’ figures. In fiscal year 2021, there were a mere 342 apprehensions, followed by 1,987 in FY 2022. Now, the floodgates have burst wide open, with apprehensions soaring to unprecedented levels.

In the San Diego Sector alone, a whopping 182 Chinese nationals were nabbed in a single day. This surge isn’t just overwhelming our border resources; it’s sparking fears about potential ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Lawmakers, led by Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., have sounded the alarm, citing numerous documented instances of CCP-directed espionage and nefarious activities. The Biden administration, in its most recent threat assessment, has echoed these concerns, warning of China’s predatory economic practices and espionage threats.

Last week, those concerns hit home when a Chinese illegal immigrant brazenly attempted to access a Marine Corps base in California. Despite being warned to leave, the individual persisted, leading to immediate detention by military law enforcement.

The Biden administration has made it abundantly clear: there will be consequences for those who dare to cross our borders illegally. The Department of Homeland Security has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing immigration laws, stressing the importance of lawful pathways while ensuring robust enforcement against those who flout the rules.

Yet, amidst the turmoil, it’s crucial to remember the human aspect of this crisis. Many migrants coming from China are simply seeking a better life for themselves and their families. But as the surge continues unabated, it’s clear that we must address this escalating national security threat head-on.
