In today’s America, where entitlement seems to have become a national pastime, the line between “sharing” and “taking advantage” is increasingly blurred. Take, for instance, a recent incident at an Applebee’s in Portage, Indiana, that shows how a simple dining experience can turn into a chaotic spectacle, all because some people believe the rules don’t apply to them.
Shawneesha Cobbs, 28, became a viral sensation for all the wrong reasons after she and her group decided to reinterpret Applebee’s “all you can eat” deal in a way that would make even the most lenient restaurant policy enforcer cringe. The deal, which includes endless boneless wings, riblets, shrimp, and fries for a mere $15.99, was meant to be enjoyed by each paying customer. But Cobbs and her entourage had other ideas.
Instead of following the clearly stated rules—“all you can eat per person” in bold letters—the group ordered one special to share among the entire table. Now, we all love a good deal, but there’s a big difference between frugality and outright trying to game the system. And when the Applebee’s manager rightly pointed out that each person would need to pay for their own endless feast, Cobbs and her crew turned the restaurant into a battleground.
What started as a simple misunderstanding quickly escalated into a full-blown confrontation. The group accused the manager of being “unprofessional,” as if insisting that customers follow the clearly stated rules is somehow out of line. When police arrived, they found a scene straight out of a reality TV show—multiple women screaming, threats being hurled, and a group that refused to back down even when faced with undeniable evidence that they were in the wrong.
You see, when the police took a look at the menu, they saw what was obvious to everyone else: the deal was, without a doubt, “per person.” But that didn’t stop Cobbs from raising her voice and disrupting the entire restaurant, dragging everyone else into her tantrum. Even after police tried to deescalate the situation, Cobbs continued to make a scene, eventually forcing them to arrest her for disorderly conduct.
This incident isn’t just about a dispute over a meal deal. It’s a reflection of a larger problem in our society, where personal responsibility is thrown out the window in favor of blame-shifting and entitlement. Cobbs and her group felt justified in causing a scene because they believed they were owed something, even when they were clearly in the wrong. And when the truth was finally acknowledged—when someone in her group sheepishly paid the bill—there was no apology, no admission of fault. Just the bitter reality that sometimes, sharing isn’t caring; it’s just plain selfish.
So the next time you’re out enjoying a meal, remember: deals have limits, rules exist for a reason, and no, you can’t have your cake and eat it too—especially if it’s someone else’s cake.
