In a move that has many raising eyebrows, Bill Maher, the outspoken host of Real Time, took a shot at Vice President Kamala Harris for what he sees as an even more egregious affront to the press than Donald Trump’s infamous verbal assaults. Yes, you heard that right—Maher, who’s no stranger to criticizing both sides of the political aisle, suggested that Harris’ cold shoulder to the media is “more insulting” than Trump’s relentless labeling of the press as the “enemy of the people.”

During a conversation with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Maher didn’t hold back. “What do you think about the fact that Kamala doesn’t talk to the press?” he asked. But he didn’t wait for an answer before laying down his own take. “In a way, I feel like it’s more insulting than what Trump does,” Maher declared. “Trump says you’re ‘the enemy of the people,’ which is pretty bad. What she’s kind of saying is, ‘I don’t need you. I’m not talking to you. You don’t matter. You’re not relevant anymore to me.’” In Maher’s view, this dismissive attitude is even worse than outright hostility. “It’s like, ‘I don’t think about you,’” he added, suggesting that the vice president’s silence is a more profound snub than Trump’s blunt attacks.

Now, let’s put this in perspective. Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee, has gone over a month without holding a single press conference or giving an interview. Not one. Compare that to Donald Trump, who—even in the midst of legal battles and controversy—has been regularly making himself available to the press, holding interviews, and facing the tough questions. Harris, on the other hand, seems to be in hiding.

Collins, who has had her fair share of clashes with Trump as a White House correspondent, pushed back slightly, noting that Trump’s daily denigration of the press was no small thing. But even she couldn’t deny that Harris’ refusal to engage with the media is problematic. “I do think she should talk to the press. I think anyone who wants to have access to the nuclear codes should be willing to sit down and take questions,” Collins stated. A pretty basic expectation, right? Yet here we are, with a vice president who appears more comfortable avoiding the media than facing them.

And it’s not just conservative critics who are noticing. Even Democrats are starting to grumble about Harris’ media blackout. The fact that she has yet to articulate any clear policy positions or offer a vision for her potential presidency is raising questions—and not just from the right. What’s her plan? What are her priorities? And why, as the woman who could very well be the next President of the United States, is she so reluctant to talk to the American people?

Sure, Harris joked with Fox News’ Peter Doocy that she’s “working toward” an interview. But how long can she keep dodging? It’s been over a month since she became the Democratic frontrunner, and yet the American public still has no idea what she actually stands for. Meanwhile, Trump continues to hold court with the press, never shying away from a tough question or a contentious topic.

So, what’s really going on here? Is Harris’ media silence a calculated move to avoid scrutiny? Or is it something more troubling—a sign that she’s not ready to face the inevitable questions about her record, her shifting positions, and the elephant in the room: President Biden’s mental decline?

One thing is clear: the American people deserve answers. And it’s high time Kamala Harris stops hiding and starts talking. After all, if you’re gunning for the highest office in the land, you can’t just ghost the press and expect no one to notice. The clock is ticking, Madam Vice President.
