In a stunning admission, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has revealed that the Biden administration pressured Facebook to censor content related to COVID-19 and to suppress The New York Post’s explosive coverage of Hunter Biden’s laptop. This is more than just a tech giant bowing to government pressure; it’s a glaring example of how deeply intertwined Big Tech and Big Government have become, especially when it comes to controlling the narrative.
In a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan, Zuckerberg did something that’s become all too rare in Silicon Valley—he confessed. He admitted that “senior Biden administration officials, including the White House, repeatedly pressured” Meta to “censor” content during the height of the pandemic. The censorship wasn’t just limited to scientific debates; it extended to “humor and satire,” the lifeblood of free expression. Can you imagine? Jokes and memes were being targeted by government officials. What does that tell you about the state of free speech in America?
But that’s not all. Zuckerberg also acknowledged that Facebook’s suppression of The Post’s reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop was a mistake. Now, let’s be clear: this wasn’t just any story. This was a bombshell report that had the potential to swing the 2020 election. But instead of allowing the public to see the truth, Facebook demoted the story and kept it out of the public eye. Why? Because the FBI had “warned” Meta about a supposed Russian disinformation operation. Except, as it turns out, there was no disinformation—just cold, hard facts about the Biden family’s dealings.
Zuckerberg’s regret over these decisions rings hollow. He claims that with the benefit of hindsight, Meta wouldn’t make the same choices today. But hindsight isn’t the issue here. The issue is that the government, in collaboration with Big Tech, decided what the American public should and shouldn’t know during a crucial election. This isn’t just about COVID-19 or Hunter Biden’s laptop; it’s about the erosion of our most fundamental freedoms.
Zuckerberg promises that things will be different in the future, that Meta won’t bow to government pressure again. But can we really trust that? After all, Zuckerberg also vowed not to pour another $400 million into local elections, following the backlash over his so-called “Zuckerbucks” initiative. He claims he wants to be neutral, but the damage has already been done. The trust is gone, and it’s hard to see how it can ever be restored.
This entire episode should serve as a wake-up call to every American. The line between Big Tech and Big Government is blurring, and our freedom of speech is on the line. If we don’t push back now, we may not have another chance.
