In a terrifying scene caught on surveillance video, a 7-year-old Milwaukee boy was kidnapped at gunpoint while his father fled — and now, the nation is asking: what kind of father runs when his child is being taken?

The chilling abduction occurred Friday around 7 p.m. outside the family’s home. Jamal White Jr. was riding his bike in the driveway when a white Jeep pulled up, circled once, then cut off the entrance. Two men jumped out. Seconds later, young Jamal was yanked off his bike.

And his father? He ran.

Security footage shows Jamal White Sr. bolting inside the house. Moments later, he reappears — not to rescue his son — but to slam the trunk of his car in frustration. By the time police were called, the boy was gone.

“Hell yeah I ran,” Jamal Sr. admitted in a Facebook post that only fueled public outrage. “I ran im thinking they tryna rob me not take my damn baby.”

Despite the urgency, an Amber Alert wasn’t issued until nearly five hours after the kidnapping — a delay that authorities have yet to fully explain. The boy remained missing for almost 24 hours.

The hunt turned chaotic and violent. At one point, the boy’s 27-year-old uncle, Jamel K. White, allegedly opened fire on two men in a passing car, believing they were involved. Bullets hit a tree and an abandoned house. No one was hurt, but the uncle now faces two felony charges for recklessly endangering safety with a firearm.

Jamal Jr. was ultimately found safe inside a home just seven miles from where he was taken. Police arrested two additional suspects — a 27-year-old at the abduction site and a 25-year-old at the recovery location. Authorities have not released a motive, and the suspects’ names remain sealed.

As news of the rescue spread, so did the backlash against the father. Social media exploded with condemnation.

“Your son gone beat on you when he get older and find out what you did buddy,” one user posted.

Another asked, “Did you at least jog after the car?”

But Jamal Sr. seemed unapologetic.

“God had us the whole time. Obviously I did right — my baby safe!” he wrote, suggesting that his son’s survival validated his decision to run.

He even praised his son’s instincts: “My baby tried to get away like I taught em.”

Jamel White, the uncle, appeared in court Tuesday. His bond was set at $20,000 with orders to stay away from firearms. Court documents indicate he fired his weapon out of fear for his family, not intent to harm.

As for the two other arrested men, police have not released their names, and the motive behind the kidnapping remains a mystery.

The public, meanwhile, remains stunned not just by the brazen daylight abduction — but by a father’s choice to run while his son was dragged away.
