Royal Caribbean Crewman Stabs Female Coworker Then Jumps Overboard to His Death

A dream cruise turned into a nightmare when a Royal Caribbean crew member brutally stabbed a female coworker before jumping to his death off the Icon of the Seas near the Bahamas.

According to Bahamian authorities, the horrifying incident unfolded Thursday evening around 7:30 p.m. as the world’s largest cruise ship sailed toward Miami. A 35-year-old male crew member allegedly knifed a 28-year-old female colleague multiple times in the upper body during what officials are calling a personal dispute gone violently wrong.

Within minutes of the attack, the man reportedly fled the scene and leapt overboard into the dark waters below. Despite rapid response from rescue teams, he was pulled from the ocean unresponsive and later pronounced dead by onboard medical personnel.

Royal Caribbean issued a brief but somber statement on Friday:

“Our onboard security team responded immediately to an incident involving two crew members during a personal dispute. One crew member was injured and is in stable condition after receiving medical care. Tragically, the other crew member was recovered after going overboard and was pronounced deceased.”

The Icon of the Seas had just embarked on a seven-day voyage through the Eastern Caribbean, having departed from Miami on July 19. The ship—Royal Caribbean’s brand-new flagship boasting water parks, 20 decks, and capacity for nearly 10,000 people—was nearing the final leg of its journey when violence erupted.

Despite the fatal incident, the cruise is expected to conclude as scheduled in Miami on Saturday. Royal Caribbean has not indicated whether additional security or support staff have been brought on board in the wake of the tragedy.
