Oslo, Norway — The Norwegian royal family has been rocked by an explosive sex-crime scandal involving Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s eldest son, Marius Borg Høiby, 28.

Høiby, the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, faces a staggering 32 criminal charges, including four counts of rape, multiple instances of sexual assault, domestic violence, and secretly filming women without their consent. Prosecutors allege a disturbing pattern of abuse stretching across several years — and if convicted, he could spend up to 10 years behind bars.

“This case is very serious,” lead prosecutor Sturla Henriksbo said during a press briefing in Oslo. “Rape and violence in close relationships are acts that destroy lives. Marius Borg Høiby will be treated no differently than any other defendant.”

A Year-Long Investigation

The case has been building for over a year and involves multiple high-profile women, including reality TV star Nora Haukland, 26, and television personality Linni Meister, 39.

  • Prosecutors allege that between 2022 and 2023, Høiby repeatedly punched, choked, and kicked Haukland, leaving her bruised and terrified.
  • In another shocking accusation, Meister claims she was raped while unconscious at a party on the royal family’s Skaugum estate.

Investigators say they’ve secured text messages, witness statements, and video evidence to support the charges. One legal source told Norwegian media: “There will be no leniency here — the evidence is significant.”

Substance Abuse, Confessions, and Denials

Høiby, who does not hold a royal title and is not in line for the throne, admitted to struggling with alcohol, cocaine, and mental health issues.

After his arrest in August 2024, he released a statement through his attorney:
“Last weekend, something happened that should never have happened. I committed bodily harm and destroyed property while intoxicated after an argument. My drug use and diagnoses do not excuse my behavior. I want to be responsible for what I have done.”

Despite this partial admission, Høiby’s lawyer, Petar Sekulic, insists his client denies “most of the allegations, particularly those involving sexual abuse and violence.”

Royal Family ‘Devastated’

The scandal has devastated Norway’s royal household. Crown Prince Haakon, 51, broke his silence, calling the situation “deeply challenging” for the family:
“It has now been clarified what the charges will be. It is up to the court to decide. For our part, we will continue to fulfill our duties.”

Royal insiders say Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who turned 52 earlier this month, marked her birthday in private as her eldest son’s alleged crimes dominated headlines.

What’s Next

Høiby’s trial is scheduled to begin in January 2026 and is expected to last six weeks. If convicted on the most serious counts, the Crown Princess’s son could face up to a decade in prison.

Legal analysts say the case could become one of Norway’s most high-profile criminal trials in decades, dragging the usually reserved royal family into an unwanted global spotlight.
