The manhunt for Charlie Kirk’s killer has ended. President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday’s “FOX & Friends” that a suspect is behind bars.
“I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody,” Trump declared.
Law enforcement sources identified the man as 29-year-old Tyler Robinson. Mugshots released late Thursday show Robinson in a striped prison jumpsuit, expression blank. He is now facing federal murder charges in connection with the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The weapon, investigators say, was a bolt-action rifle. A simple, durable firearm often used for hunting — but also deadly precise. Unlike a semiautomatic, each shot requires a manual reload.
“This process limits the rate of fire, you can only take one shot at a time,” retired Marine Lt. Col. Hal Kempfer explained to Fox News Digital. He added that shooters using bolt-action rifles rarely leave behind shell casings. “If you’ve thought it through, you know that you can’t leave any forensic evidence for investigators to work with.”
Kirk’s assassination on Wednesday at Utah Valley University shocked the nation. The 31-year-old Turning Point USA founder was gunned down during a live Q&A session.
Within hours, vigils were held across college campuses where Kirk had once rallied conservative students. “We lost more than a leader,” one student at Arizona State University said. “We lost a fighter for faith and freedom.”
Turning Point USA released a tribute video titled “A Life of Faith, A Legacy That Endures.” It splices together clips of Kirk’s early speeches and intimate moments with his wife Erika and their young daughter.
In one scene, a younger Kirk vows, “We’re going to become an institution, to give them the power and confidence and let their voice be heard.”
The group he founded in 2012 now claims a presence on more than 3,500 campuses nationwide.
President Trump, who had often praised Kirk, appeared in the video. “The media said that Turning Point could never run a ground game. They didn’t know Charlie right.”
Kirk’s widow Erika also appears, speaking through tears. “He loved God, he loved his family, and he loved this country. That’s what I want people to remember.”
The tribute ends with Kirk reflecting on his own legacy. “I want to be remembered for courage for my faith. That would be the most important thing.”
For millions of young conservatives, those words now carry even more weight.
