A deadly shooting in an Indianapolis McDonalds left two people dead and five others injured in the early morning hours of Sunday, according to police.

IMPD officers responded to the 6800 block of Shore Terrace just after 2 a.m. after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found five people suffering from gunshot wounds. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Three others were rushed to the hospital, while two additional victims later showed up on their own—one at a hospital and another at a nearby fire station. Authorities say three of the injured remain in critical condition, while two are listed as serious.

Investigators believe the shooting followed a disturbance in a parking lot, but have not released details about who may be responsible. Homicide detectives and forensic teams are now piecing together evidence and interviewing witnesses.

The shooting capped off a violent 24 hours in Indianapolis. On Saturday evening, officers were called to a McDonald’s where a 34-year-old armed man threatened employees. During the incident, a shot was fired toward two officers, though no one was injured. The suspect fled but was quickly taken into custody.

“My heart is heavy after the violence the Indianapolis community experienced over the last 24 hours,” IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said in a statement, adding that detectives are working nonstop to track down those responsible.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office will release the names of the deceased once their families have been notified. Police are urging anyone with information, photos, or video from the area to reach out to Detective Christopher Winter at 317-327-3475 or Christopher.Winter@indy.gov, or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477) or www.CrimeTips.org.
