A tragic workplace accident in Texas has left a young man dead and his grieving mother facing an unimaginable future alone.

Ryan Carlos Vargas, just 21 years old, was killed on April 10 after being electrocuted while working on power lines in Fort Worth. According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, his death was ruled an accident caused by an electrical arc flash.

Officials say Vargas and a coworker were both caught in the incident and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Sadly, Vargas did not survive.

Those who knew him say the loss is devastating.

Friends and coworkers described Vargas as hardworking, dependable, and someone who always showed up for the people he cared about. One colleague shared that just hours before the accident, they had been talking about how dedicated and talented he was on the job.

“He was a quality person and a great worker,” a friend said, still in disbelief over how quickly everything changed.

But the heartbreak doesn’t stop there.

Vargas was his mother’s only child—and her main source of support. After losing her husband years ago, she leaned on her son, who stepped up at a young age to help take care of her and keep their household going.

Now, she’s left grieving both her partner and her son.

Friends say the moment she spoke after the tragedy was gut-wrenching. “That’s my baby,” she said, struggling to process the loss.

Loved ones have since launched a fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses and basic living costs as she navigates this devastating chapter. They describe Vargas as the heart of his family—a young man who worked hard, stayed loyal, and always put others first.
