A terrifying train crash in Denmark has left dozens injured after two trains slammed into each other head-on during the early morning commute.
The collision happened around 6:30 a.m. on April 23 just north of Hillerød, about 25 miles outside Copenhagen, according to officials.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene after the two local trains collided at a level crossing. Authorities say there were 38 passengers on board at the time of the crash.
At least 18 people were injured, and five of them are reported to be in critical condition.
First responders launched a massive rescue effort, with ambulances and helicopters transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Officials say all passengers were able to get off the trains following the crash.
The Greater Copenhagen Fire Department confirmed that multiple emergency units were dispatched to the scene as crews worked to secure the area and assist victims.
Local officials say the number of injured could still change as the situation develops.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the collision, and an investigation is now underway.
