A shocking and completely unprovoked attack at a California fast-food drive-thru has finally led to prison time — but the terrifying details are still hard to believe.
Clayton Peavey, 31, of Santa Maria has been sentenced to seven years in state prison after brutally assaulting a 19-year-old employee at a Chick-fil-A, according to prosecutors.
The violent incident happened just before noon on March 2, as the young worker — identified only as Jane Doe — was taking orders in the drive-thru line.
Out of nowhere, authorities say Peavey walked up behind her holding a concrete brick over his head.
Without warning, he slammed it into her with such force that it shattered on impact.
The victim collapsed to the ground, trying to protect herself — but the attack didn’t stop there. Prosecutors say Peavey struck her three more times in the head and hand using the remaining piece of the brick before casually walking away.
The injuries were severe. The teen suffered deep cuts to her head that required stitches, a concussion, and broken bones in her hand.
Officers with the Santa Maria Police Department were flagged down near the restaurant shortly after the attack. By the time they arrived, the suspect had already fled.
A short time later, police tracked Peavey down in nearby agricultural fields and took him into custody without incident.
He later pleaded guilty to felony assault with a deadly weapon, along with a special allegation of causing great bodily injury. He was sentenced in Santa Barbara Superior Court by Judge Patricia L. Kelly.
Initially booked on suspicion of attempted murder, the case ultimately ended with a conviction that still carries serious consequences.
“While nothing can erase the pain and trauma that this brave victim has been forced to endure, the sentence represents justice and accountability,” said Santa Barbara County District Attorney John T. Savrnoch.
