A horrifying case out of downtown Los Angeles is leaving people stunned after an elderly man suffering from dementia was brutally attacked and set on fire.
Prosecutors say 84-year-old Bang Cho had wandered away from his care facility on April 19 when he encountered a man on Sixth Street between Hope Street and Grand Avenue in Los Angeles.
That man — identified as Lavonta Martel Wilder — is now facing a murder charge.
According to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, what happened next was extremely violent. Investigators say Cho, who was disoriented and vulnerable due to his condition, grabbed one of Wilder’s bags — and that’s when things escalated.
Authorities allege Wilder responded by repeatedly punching and kicking the 84-year-old man in the head and body. Prosecutors say the attack didn’t stop there — he allegedly lifted Cho and slammed him to the ground before setting him on fire.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, where video reportedly shows first responders treating the victim as police secured the area. Witnesses described a chaotic and disturbing scene, with one person saying they saw the attacker stomping on the man before the fire was set. That same witness reportedly jumped in to help, trying to put out the flames and perform CPR until paramedics arrived.
Cho was taken to the hospital but died the following day.
“The level of violence alleged here is brutal, callous and extreme,” District Attorney Nathan Hochman said, adding that prosecutors intend to pursue the case aggressively.
Wilder was later located nearby and taken into custody. He has been charged with one count of murder and faces a potential life sentence if convicted. His bail has been set at more than $2 million.

If people would stop voting for the democrats that have turned this state into a sewer maybe things would improve.
